6 reasons to buy

  • The Quick Dry Air Mesh staves off moisture and provides breathable coverage.
  • Many testers were impressed by the improved durability of the One 2.5.
  • It features a Blown Rubber for better traction, a responsive ride and more flexibility.
  • Runners appreciated the good number of color options for this model.
  • It comes at an affordable price.
  • The mid-sole unit brings responsive cushioning, flexibility, and a balanced platform that’s partially made from recycled materials.

3 reasons not to buy

  • Based on some reviews, the One 2.5 offered less cushioning and less arch support than the previous version.
  • The toe box felt a bit tight for some testers, making their toes clump together uncomfortably.
  • Others pointed out that the heel area was narrow and uncomfortable.

Bottom line

The Altra One 2.5 is a cheap running shoe that is lightweight and breathable. Not many were impressed by the overall enhancement of the Altra One 2.5, but it was able to provide a responsive ride and a more comfortable upper. This shoe is best for tempo running and racing.

They feel very light and I feel faster in them. They're really cool shoe.

  • 90 / 100 | Happy Healthy Vegan | | Level 2 expert

The One 2.5 is a lightweight, lightly cushioned, minimal style running shoe. Highlight features include their Zero Drop design (the heel and forefoot are the same distance from the ground) and the wide "FootShape" toe box.

Like the 2.0, this model has more cushioning than the first version, but the foam density in the 2.5 is a hair firmer, providing a more responsive ride that several testers found hit the sweet spot.

  • 90 / 100 | Road Trail Run | | Level 5 expert

The One 2.5 is a great, free, light feeling shoe with enough protection to put miles on it—especially on shorter, faster days—while they’re fun at a loping speed, I really enjoy them when I drop to 7 minute miles.

there are two problems; the One wears out quickly, making it an expensive shoe in terms of cost per mile, and the best shoes are either lighter or better cushioned (or both.)

  • The Altra One 2.5 redesigned its upper in order to give runners a more comfortable ride. It used light and breathable and quick-drying materials to keep the foot cool and dry.
  • Another notable update of the One 2.5 was the improved fit. It comes with a wide forefoot area and an asymmetrical lacing design for a secure fit and feel.
  • The new color options of the Altra One 2.5 are the most visible update of the shoe. They are truly eye-catching and pleasing to the eye.

The sizing of the shoe is the usual length like the previous version. Since it has a wider forefoot area and regular measurements on the heel and midfoot, wide-footer and runners with regular foot shape will find a good fit in this version.

The outsole utilizes the FootPOd Technology that maps out the foot’s bones and tendons for the foot to flex naturally. With the maximum flexibility, runners will also enjoy a responsive ride. Found in the outsole as well is the blown carbon rubber, which is also used in the Altra One v3. Aside from enhancing the overall traction of the shoe, it delivers a flexible and responsive ride.

The midsole of the Altra One 2.5 utilizes the Dual Layer EVA that offers a reasonable amount of cushioning. This works hand-in-hand with the Altra’s A-Bound Technology that provides efficient energy-return and sufficient underfoot cushioning. It reduces ground impact and provides springy feel to each step. The shoe uses the brand’s InnerFlex Technology, allowing the foot to move freely and flex to where it wants to. This increases the runners’ speed for a much better running performance. Altra uses its Natural Ride System Technology in the One 2.5. It promotes natural foot movement by allowing the foot mechanisms to work naturally. Natural foot movement is attainable due to the 0 mm heel drop, deep longitudinal grooves and metatarsal pads. Optimal running comfort was achieved through the Natural Foot Design found in all Altra shoes. This technology follows the natural shape of the foot, allowing the foot to relax and spread naturally. Aside from the comfort it gives, it adds stability and speed.

The upper of the Altra One 2.5 was updated. One f the updates is the use of the Quick Dry Air Mesh that is very lightweight. It is highly breathable, keeping the foot cool and dry. It also has the capacity to wick water away. Another notable update in the upper is the Asymmetrical Lacing design of the shoe. It follows the natural shape of the foot. The lacing design offers an improved fit and feel. The shoe also uses a 5-mm removable insole. The contour footbeds were engineered to help runners who need traditional support.
